Uniforms - children's division, youth & pre-professional ballet division, & Open Division

DAS-branded uniforms are required for all students in our Children's Division, our Youth & Pre-Professional Ballet Division and our Open Division. Shipments are arriving weekly from Corps Dancewear, but we ARE seeing some minor delays, so we appreciate your patience! If you haven't yet placed your dancer's uniform order, please visit our online store HERE.
In order to accurately instruct students in executing proper classical ballet technique, the positions and alignment of the dancers' legs, feet and torso must be visible. The uniformity of the dancers also helps minimize distractions in the studio and helps promote a successful learning environment.
Children's Division and Youth & Pre-Professional Ballet Division dancers should be dressed appropriately for every class, which includes their uniform leotard or dance dress, ballet skirt (required for all Primary levels, as the skirt is used to develop arm placement in demi-seconde), and tights that match their ballet shoes (skin-toned or pink). No bare legs will be permitted. Pre-Primary and Primary level classes also need black tap shoes. For Pre-Primary and Primary levels, hair should be pulled securely off the face in a ponytail or ballet bun; and for all dancers in Levels 1 through 5, a secure bun or comparable style is required. This will keep hair out of the dancers' eyes and off of the neck, and will allow for proper spotting technique during turns.

ATTIRE GUIDELINES FOR OPEN DIVISION CLASSES

While attire requirements in the Open Division can tend to be more informal, it is still important that students present themselves in a way that allows our instructors to provide artistic feedback and technical corrections. For our 2022/2023 season, dancers attending classes in our Basic Tech., Beg. Tech., Int. Tech., and Adv. Tech. classes will be required to wear the appropriate level DAS-branded uniform, while also following the guidelines listed below for each style of dance. It is our hope that our uniform will help shift the focus away from what they are wearing and allow them to focus on what they are learning.
MODERN: DAS-branded leotard, solid black full-length leggings or tights, bare feet. No baggy shirts or extra layers, unless permitted by the instructor due to cold weather.
JAZZ, MUSICAL THEATRE, CONTEMPORARY THEATRE: DAS-branded leotard, black full-length leggings or tights, ballet or jazz shoes. No baggy shirts or extra layers, unless permitted by the instructor due to cold weather. Depending on the style of theatre being covered, dancers may be asked to wear skin-toned or black character shoes if available; but they are not required.
TAP: DAS-branded leotard, black full-length leggings or tights, tap shoes. No baggy shirts or extra layers, unless permitted by the instructor due to cold weather.
HIP HOP: leotard or fitted base layer, leggings or sweats, tennis shoes with non-marking soles (shoes should be clean and free of rocks or any other debris that could damage the dance studio flooring). Baggy shirts and extra layers ARE permitted for hip hop classes as it is appropriate for the style and aesthetic of this class, but please wear a base layer to ensure clothing does not affect stretching, floor work and other inverted movement.
Hair should be secured off the face for all classes, either in a ponytail, braid, bun or comparable hair style.
